Camp Dakota Sonshine

Camp Dakota Sonshine is a Christian summer camp built on Biblical principles that lays a solid foundation for campers to carry throughout their lives. It is the hope of Dakota Sonshine that each camper will depart from camp with the knowledge that they are cherished and loved.

Campers arrive on Tuesday afternoon and stay on camp property until Friday afternoon for a 4-day/3-night stay. Campers range in age from 9-16 and are divided into a Junior (9-12) and Senior group (13-16).

Retreats

Groups may rent the Dakota Sonshine facilities for a week and provide their own program. Groups can opt to hire Dakota Sonshine staff to run numerous activities pre-selected by group leaders. Dakota Sonshine can provide food service for the week for an additional fee.

Each visiting group must sign a contract with Dakota Sonshine, pay an administrative fee prior to arrival and provide background checks for individuals 18 years of age and older if working with children in the community.

Outreach and Missions Center

Dakota Sonshine Mission Center offers opportunities for mission teams outside of our community to join us in reaching individuals in Northeast South Dakota with the Gospel of Christ and to assist us in building God’s kingdom as a body of believers. The Mission Center also serves as a hub for training local believers wishing to be discipled and trained in evangelism, educating them on how to reach our community for Christ side by side.

The Dakota Sonshine Mission Center hosts summer mission teams from the months of May through October.

Equine Assisted Learning and Discipleship

Dakota Sonshine Equine Assisted Learning and Discipleship assists people in learning their identity in Christ while improving emotional health and well-being with the assistance of miniature horses and other animals. [This program is not a substitute for seeking medical treatment or professional mental health treatment. Counselors are trained in Biblical discipleship and are not professional, licensed therapists.]

Conservation and Cultural Preservation

Dakota Sonshine Conservation and Cultural Preservation provides the community with a place to observe nature, participate in outdoor recreation and de-stress in a safe environment while also educating the public about the conservation of native plants and wildlife found in Roberts County and the surrounding area.

Family Assistance

Dakota Sonshine Family Assistance serves our community by meeting specific needs of low-income single mothers and families.

Dakota Sonshine Family Assistance is designed to strengthen the relationship between Dakota Sonshine and the Lake Traverse Reservation and surrounding communities by providing support to the individuals and families residing there.

We meet the physical needs of our community by offering The Winter Warm Up, Christmas giving, food drives, assisting single moms with automotive needs and providing baby items to single, expectant moms.
